The Project Manager will report directly to Alage College dean, Federal ATVET director and Country Director of The Donkey Sanctuary Ethiopia and work closely with project partners, the Finance Officer, MEL team, and government stakeholders to ensure effective project delivery
Position Overview:
The Project Manager leads planning, implementation, coordination, and performance management of the project, ensuring effective delivery of equine welfare, alumni engagement, and institutional sustainability objectives through oversight of strategy, stakeholder coordination, technical implementation, MEAL, finance, and risk management.
Key Responsibilities
1. Strategic Planning, Program Implementation & Technical Oversight
Translate project goals into annual, quarterly, and monthly work plans with clear activities, timelines, responsibilities, and alignment to equine welfare, alumni engagement, and sustainability.
Supervise implementation of all components (tracer system, alumni clusters, CPD training, welfare interventions), ensuring timely delivery, quality, and corrective action where needed.
Ensure welfare activities follow EARS methodology and animal welfare standards with evidence-based implementation and measurement.
Oversee CPD training for AHA alumni, ensuring relevance, tracer data use, and monitoring of learning and field application.
Regularly review and adjust plans based on field data, stakeholder feedback, and performance results.
2. Alumni System Development, Stakeholder Coordination & Partnership Management
Develop and manage the alumni tracer system through data collection, mapping, and digital database use.
Strengthen regional alumni clusters by promoting participation, collaboration, and clear roles.
Use tracer data to guide training, welfare priorities, and impact measurement.
Coordinate communication among TDS, MoLS, and Alage to ensure alignment and smooth collaboration.
Facilitate coordination meetings and workshops while managing partnerships and addressing operational risks.
3. Monitoring, Evaluation, Financial Oversight & Organizational Performance
Establish and manage a results-based MEL system tracking welfare, alumni engagement, and training outcomes.
Ensure regular data collection, analysis, and reporting for decision-making and accountability.
Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual reports for donor and project compliance.
Work with Finance Officer to align budgets, monitor spending, and ensure efficient resource use.
Approve major expenditures and promote value for money and cost-effectiveness across all activities.
Qualification
Master’s degree in Veterinary Medicine
Experience
Minimum of 5–7 years of progressive experience in program or project management
Proven experience managing donor-funded development projects
Strong background in livestock systems, animal health, or animal welfare programs
Experience in multi-stakeholder coordination and partnership management
Skills & Competencies
Strong leadership and team management skills
Excellent strategic planning and problem-solving abilities
Strong communication, facilitation, and stakeholder engagement skills
Experience in monitoring, evaluation, and reporting
Ability to work effectively in dynamic and field-based environments
