Role description
Objective: To conduct a comprehensive Market System Development Study on the Enset value chain to develop a return on investment model tailored for smallholder farmers, MSMEs, and financial service providers participating in the commercial Enset product value chain.

Key Deliverables During and After The Assignment
Before starting the assignment the successful consultant should be required to read Tearfund Policy and Regulations to adhere with the organisation data protocol and compliance issues. Then the consultant shall submit the following documents to enable Tearfund to provide the necessary support during the assignment period. These documents will also guide Tearfund to develop a client-centric and sustainable financial product for small holders farmers and MSMEs who will be engaging in Enset product value chain.
Inception Report :
before commencing the study the consultant will deliver an inception report that captures a detailed work plan, assessment methodology, research questions, and list of stakeholders to be interviewed. This document will be reviewed by Tearfund to make the necessary adjustments to fit into the objective of the study.
Economic Feasibility Assessment of Enset Products:
This is a strategic document that will be developed by the consultant at the end of the exercise. The consultant will propose the structure and the content of this strategic document upon signing the contract which will be further validated by Tearfund. However, this particular document should indicate
A detailed Enset value chain analysis in the geographic areas targeted for this study and identify the key Enset products that have local, regional and national market demand

The key challenges faced by smallholder farmers, MSMEs, wholesalers and retailers with in Enset product value chain from Production, Processing, Aggregation, Value addition, and Marketing perspective
The key strategic enablers (actors)

with in the Enset value chain and the type of support they can provide to smallholder farmers, MSMEs, wholesalers and retailers as part of establishing a more robust, client-centric, commercially viable, and self-sustaining, market system for Enset products
A comprehensive return on investment calculation for each Enset product demonstrating significant market value, predicated upon a detailed Enset value chain analysis. The return on investment must explicitly indicate the stability of the value chain, the projected income from Enset production and product processing, the requisite cash flow and liquidity modeling from local financial service providers, and the anticipated timeline for loan repayment
Financial products that Tearfund could jointly develop with local financial service providers, tailored to the financial requirements of smallholder farmers, MSMEs, within the Enset value chain. The suggestion needs to clearly indicate the risk-sharing mechanism pursued for local financial service providers and the communities that will be engaged in the Enset product value chain. It would be advisable, the consult suggestion considers a financial modeling that transits from donor dependency to commercially viable, self-sustaining financial products indicating a mechanism for market adoption, institutionalization, and private-sector incentives necessary to ensure continued provision after Tearfund support to the community ends.

The study requires a detailed stakeholder analysis for each targeted region mapping key actors involved in enhancing the Enset value chain from Production, Processing, Aggregation, Value addition, and Marketing perspective. This exercise helps Tearfund to identify key public and private stakeholders within the targeted regions as part of developing a sustainable market system for Enset product value chain
