1. Intern – Communications
Job Summary
The Communications Intern will support the Communication Section of the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa with social media content, digital communications, media-related activities, event coverage, internal communications, and communication materials related to ECA's thematic areas.
Key Responsibilities
Support the development of social media content and messages on areas including: Climate Change Regional Integration Innovation Infrastructure Development Gender UN and International Days Translate content for media, ECA platforms, and social media. Develop digital communication assets such as quote cards, GIFs, and videos. Support event coverage and prepare press releases, media advisories, and short blog content for the website and Intranet. Assist with media monitoring and maintenance of media databases. Support internal communications related to the Administration Division. Compile analysis, data, and information relating to ECA's thematic activities. Participate in conferences, webinars, and other events. Perform other duties as assigned.
Education and Eligibility
Applicants must meet one of the following educational requirements:
Be enrolled in a graduate school programme leading to a second university degree or equivalent, or higher, in journalism, communication, media relations, languages, digital/social media, or a related field; or Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first-level university degree, with a minimum bachelor's degree requirement, in one of the relevant fields.
Applicants may also be considered if they have completed the relevant degree within the specified eligibility period.
Professional work experience is not required.
Applicants may be required to provide proof of enrollment and an official degree certificate during the recruitment process.
Recruitment & Staffing
Languages
Fluency in English and/or French is required.
Knowledge of another UN official language—Arabic, Chinese, Russian, or Spanish—is desirable. French is also considered an asset.
Internship Conditions
The internship is not financially remunerated. Travel, visa, accommodation, and living expenses are the responsibility of the intern or their sponsor.
