Job Position-Senior Accountant
Position Summary
The Senior Accountant is a key finance role responsible for maintaining the financial integrity and accuracy of HOMEFER TRADING PLC’s accounting records across all functional areas. The role combines general ledger management, payroll supervision, cost control, and construction project accounting. This position ensures that all financial transactions are recorded correctly, internal controls are upheld, and reporting is timely and compliant. The Senior Accountant also supports budgeting, reconciliations, statutory filings, and interdepartmental coordination—playing a critical role in enabling financial clarity and operational efficiency across construction projects and corporate functions.
Core Purpose of the Role
To ensure accurate, timely, and compliant financial reporting and accounting operations—including payroll, cost/project accounting, and general ledger oversight—that support sound decision-making, operational performance, and financial sustainability across Homefer Trading plc
Key Roles & Responsibilities
Construction Cost & Project Accounting
Monitor project budgets and actual expenses across multiple construction sites.
Track direct and indirect project costs (materials, labor, subcontractors, equipment).
Reconcile cost allocations with BOQ, work progress, and site-level reports.
Prepare job cost reports and flag any cost overruns or variances.
Daily Financial Operations
Manage and post journal entries, payment vouchers, and project-related transactions.
Verify and process vendor invoices and subcontractor claim against contracts or POs.
Ensure all project-related financial documents are complete, authorized, and filed.
Financial Reporting & Reconciliation
Assist in monthly, quarterly, and annual closings for project accounts.
Prepare account reconciliations (e.g., bank, payables, receivables, advances).
Support the preparation of internal financial statements and reports.
Compliance, Audit & Documentation
Ensure compliance with tax regulations, including withholding tax and VAT.
Maintain up-to-date financial records to support external/internal audits.
Support auditors with project documentation and required clarifications.
Collaboration & Support
Work closely with project managers, site accountants, procurement, and storekeepers.
Coordinate with the finance team to ensure consistency in financial practices.
Support budgeting and forecasting efforts for new and ongoing projects.
Payroll Accounting
Oversee monthly payroll processing, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with labor laws and internal policies.
Reconcile payroll accounts and ensure proper posting into the general ledger.
Handle payroll tax reporting and statutory deductions such as pension, income tax, and employee benefits.
General Accounting
Maintain the general ledger and chart of accounts.
Support preparation of trial balances, balance sheets, income statements, and other core financial reports.
Monitor fixed assets, depreciation schedules, and amortization records.
Treasury & Cash Management
Track bank transactions and reconcile statements.
Assist with cash flow monitoring and forecasting.
Support daily banking operations and relationships with financial institutions.
Key Skills & Competencies
Strong understanding of project accounting and cost control in construction
Excellent knowledge of financial processes and reconciliation techniques
Proficiency in Excel and accounting software
Attention to detail and accuracy under pressure
Good organizational and communication skills
Ability to work independently and meet deadlines
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
Accuracy of cost tracking and project accounting
Timeliness of financial closings and reports
Compliance rate with tax and audit requirements
Reconciliation error rate
Stakeholder satisfaction from Finance, Projects, and Procurement teams

Education
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (required)
Experience
Minimum of 5 years of experience in accounting, with at least 3 years in construction or project-based organizations
Familiarity with ERP/accounting systems (e.g., Peachtree, SAP, Oracle)
Strong knowledge of Ethiopian tax law, labor regulations, and withholding obligations
