The Radiation Oncologist will diagnose, plan, and administer radiation therapy for patients with cancer and certain non-cancerous conditions. This role involves coordinating multidisciplinary cancer care, ensuring safe and effective treatment delivery, and supporting patients throughout their treatment journey.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Clinical Duties:
Conduct comprehensive examinations of patients referred for radiation therapy.
Diagnose and evaluate oncologic conditions requiring radiation treatment.
Develop individualized radiation treatment plans in collaboration with medical physicists and dosimetrists.
Prescribe and supervise radiation therapy procedures, including external beam radiation therapy, brachytherapy, and stereotactic treatments.
Monitor patients throughout treatment and manage radiation-related side effects and complications.
Coordinate care with medical oncologists, surgeons, pathologists, radiologists, and other healthcare professional.
Provide palliative radiation treatment when indicated to improve patient quality of life.
Administrative Duties:
Maintain accurate and detailed patient records, treatment plans, and follow-up documentation.
Ensure compliance with radiation safety regulations and institutional protocols.
Collaborate with radiation therapists, medical physicists, and oncology nursing staff to ensure quality patient care.
Participate in quality assurance and continuous improvement initiatives within the oncology department.
Educational Duties:
Educate patients and families regarding diagnosis, treatment options, expected outcomes, and potential side effects.
Provide guidance on cancer prevention, early detection, and survivorship care.
Stay updated with advancements in radiation oncology through continuous professional development and research activities.
REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Medical Doctor (MD) degree from a recognized institution.
Specialization in Radiation Oncology.
Valid professional license by the Ethiopian Food and Drug Authority (EFDA) or equivalent regulatory body in Ethiopia.
Minimum of 3 years of demonstrable post-specialization experience as a Radiation Oncologist.
