The Nephrologist will specialize in the diagnosis, treatment, and management of kidney diseases, hypertension, and fluid and electrolyte disorders. This role involves providing comprehensive care for patients with acute and chronic kidney conditions, including dialysis management and pre-transplant evaluation.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Clinical Duties:
Evaluate patients with kidney-related issues, including acute kidney injury, chronic kidney disease, hypertension, and electrolyte imbalances.
Diagnose kidney diseases through clinical assessment, laboratory tests, and kidney biopsies.
Develop and implement individualized treatment plans, including medication management and dietary recommendations.
Manage patients on various modalities of renal replacement therapy, including hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis.
Provide pre-transplant evaluation and post-transplant follow-up care.
Collaborate with primary care physicians, internists, and other specialists for integrated patient care.
Administrative Duties:
Maintain accurate and detailed patient medical records, especially for patients with chronic kidney disease.
Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings (e.g., dialysis unit rounds).
Contribute to the development of nephrology protocols and guidelines.
Educational Duties:
Educate patients and their families on kidney disease progression, treatment options (including dialysis and transplantation), and lifestyle modifications.
Mentor junior medical staff and students on nephrology principles.
Stay updated with advancements in nephrology and renal care.
REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Medical Doctor (MD) degree from a recognized institution.
Specialization in Nephrology.
Valid professional license by the Ethiopian Food and Drug Authority (EFDA) or equivalent regulatory body in Ethiopia.
Minimum of 3 years of demonstrable post-specialization experience as a Nephrologist.
