The Emergency Specialist will provide immediate medical care to patients presenting with acute illnesses or injuries in the emergency department. This role demands rapid assessment, stabilization, diagnosis, and initiation of treatment for a diverse range of medical conditions, ensuring timely and effective interventions according to emergency protocols.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Clinical Duties:
Rapidly assess and stabilize critically ill or injured patients in the emergency setting.
Diagnose and manage a wide spectrum of emergent medical, surgical, trauma, and pediatric conditions.
Perform emergency procedures such as intubation, central line insertion, chest tube placement, and resuscitation.
Order and interpret diagnostic tests promptly to guide clinical decisions.
Initiate appropriate treatment plans and determine the need for admission, transfer, or discharge.
Provide compassionate care under high-pressure situations.
Administrative Duties:
Maintain accurate and concise documentation of patient encounters in the emergency department.
Coordinate effectively with other departments for patient admissions, transfers, and consultations.
Contribute to the development and implementation of emergency department protocols and quality improvement initiatives.
Educational Duties:
Participate in training and mentorship of junior medical staff, residents, and nursing staff in emergency medicine principles.
Keep abreast of the latest advancements and guidelines in emergency medicine and critical care.
REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Medical Doctor (MD) degree from a recognized institution.
Specialization in Emergency Medicine.
Valid professional license by the Ethiopian Food and Drug Authority (EFDA) or equivalent regulatory body in Ethiopia
Minimum of 3 years of demonstrable post-specialization experience in a busy emergency department.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
:
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), and Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) certifications preferred.
Exceptional crisis management, decision-making, and communication skills.
Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
Excellent interpersonal skills.
Ability to work under pressure.
Good time management and organizational skills.
