The ICU/Critical Care Specialist will provide specialized care for critically ill patients with life-threatening conditions. This role involves advanced monitoring, diagnosis, treatment, and coordination of multidisciplinary care to optimize patient outcomes in the intensive care setting.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Clinical Duties:
Assess, diagnose, and manage critically ill patients admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
Provide advanced life support and critical care interventions for patients with respiratory failure, sepsis, shock, trauma, organ failure, and other complex conditions.
Perform and supervise critical care procedures, including endotracheal intubation, central venous catheter insertion, arterial line placement, and mechanical ventilation management.
Interpret laboratory results, imaging studies, and hemodynamic monitoring data.
Coordinate multidisciplinary care with surgeons, anesthesiologists, internists, and other specialists.
Respond to medical emergencies and participate in rapid response and code blue teams.
Develop individualized treatment plans and ensure continuity of care throughout ICU admission.
Administrative Duties:
Maintain accurate and detailed patient records and critical care documentation.
Ensure compliance with ICU protocols, infection prevention measures, and patient safety standards.
Participate in quality improvement and clinical audit activities.
Collaborate with nursing staff and allied health professionals to optimize patient care and resource utilization.
Educational Duties:
Educate patients' families regarding critical illness, treatment plans, prognosis, and expected outcomes.
Mentor junior physicians, residents, nurses, and other healthcare professionals.
Stay updated with advancements in critical care medicine through continuous professional development.
REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Medical Doctor (MD) degree from a recognized institution.
Specialization in Critical Care Medicine, Intensive Care Medicine, Anesthesiology with Critical Care Training, or Internal Medicine with Critical Care Fellowship.
Valid professional license by the Ethiopian Food and Drug Authority (EFDA) or equivalent regulatory body in Ethiopia.
Minimum of 3 years of demonstrable post-specialization experience in Critical Care Medicine.

Strong diagnostic, analytical, and decision-making skills.
Ability to work effectively under pressure and manage emergencies.
Good time management and organizational skills
