Job Summary
SOS Children’s Villages in Ethiopia is seeking a qualified Project Cashier responsible for managing cash transactions, processing payments, maintaining financial records, and ensuring compliance with organizational financial procedures.
The Project Cashier will handle cash receipts, deposits, payments, petty cash management, financial documentation, and support project finance operations.
Key Responsibilities
Payment Preparation & Cash Management
- Receive, verify, and issue official receipts for payments made to SOS Children’s Villages.
- Deposit received cash and cheques into bank accounts.
- Review payment requests for accuracy, completeness, approvals, and compliance.
- Provide cash advances for approved organizational expenses.
- Monitor payable and receivable accounts.
Petty Cash Management
- Maintain and manage petty cash funds.
- Process petty cash payments with proper documentation and approvals.
- Update petty cash records and reconcile balances regularly.
- Prepare petty cash replenishment requests.
- Conduct cash counts to ensure accuracy.
Payment Processing
- Follow up on timely payments of withholding tax, pension, and income tax obligations.
- Process approved utility and operational payments such as telephone, electricity, and water bills.
- Immediately report cash shortages or overages to responsible finance officers.
Documentation & Reporting
- Safeguard cash records, cheque books, receipts, and financial documents.
- Maintain accurate records of received and paid amounts.
- Reconcile physical cash with recorded balances.
- Support inventory control activities.
- Assist finance teams in implementing internal control systems.
- Provide financial management support to project teams.
- Submit daily cash reports with supporting documents.
Required Qualifications & Skills
Essential Requirements
Education:
- Diploma or Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related fields.
Experience:
- Degree holders: Minimum 4 years of direct cashier experience.
- BA Degree holders: Minimum 2 years of relevant experience.
- Experience working in NGOs, humanitarian projects, or international organizations is highly desirable.
Technical Skills:
- Experience in petty cash management and payment processing.
- Knowledge of financial reconciliation and cash balance management.
- Proficiency in accounting software, D365, and Microsoft Office applications.
- Strong Excel, Word, and PowerPoint skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively in the local language of the program area.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Finance and Accounting or related fields.
- Experience working with international organizations and donor-funded projects.
- Knowledge of donor compliance requirements and NGO financial procedures.
- Ability to prepare financial reports and reconciliation statements.
- Experience in financial forecasting and cost management.
- Afaan Oromo language ability is an advantage.
