The Pathologist will specialize in the diagnosis of diseases through the examination of tissues, organs, bodily fluids, and autopsies. This crucial role supports clinical diagnoses, guides treatment decisions, and contributes to disease surveillance, working closely with clinical teams.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Clinical Duties:
Receive, process, and interpret surgical specimens, biopsies, and cytology samples, providing accurate and timely pathological diagnoses.
Perform gross and microscopic examination of tissue, identifying abnormalities and disease processes.
Conduct and interpret laboratory tests related to hematology, microbiology, clinical chemistry, and immunology as part of clinical pathology duties.
Perform autopsies to determine cause of death and provide clinicopathological correlation.
Provide expert consultation to clinicians regarding diagnostic findings and their clinical implications.
Ensure quality control and assurance in laboratory procedures.
Administrative Duties:
Maintain detailed and organized records of all pathological findings and laboratory results.
Collaborate with laboratory technologists, clinicians, and other healthcare professionals to ensure efficient diagnostic services.
Contribute to the development and implementation of laboratory policies, procedures, and safety protocols.
Educational Duties:
Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings, presenting pathological findings and their clinical relevance.
Stay updated with advancements in pathology, diagnostic techniques, and laboratory technology.
Provide training and mentorship to junior laboratory staff and medical students.
REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Medical Doctor (MD) degree from a recognized institution.
Specialization in Anatomic Pathology, Clinical Pathology, or Combined Anatomic and Clinical Pathology.
Valid professional license by the Ethiopian Food and Drug Authority (EFDA) or equivalent regulatory body in Ethiopia.
Minimum of 3 years of demonstrable post-specialization experience as a Pathologist in a diagnostic laboratory setting.
