About the Role
We are seeking an exceptional, patient-focused
Neurologist
to join our growing multidisciplinary clinical team.
The successful candidate will provide expert care in the diagnosis, treatment, and long-term management of neurological disorders affecting the brain, spinal cord, peripheral nerves, and muscles across outpatient and inpatient settings.

Key Duties & Responsibilities
1.
Specialist Assessment, Diagnosis and Treatment Planning
Assess patients presenting with acute and chronic neurological symptoms through comprehensive history taking, neurological examination, risk assessment, and diagnostic planning.
Develop differential diagnoses and formulate evidence-based management plans for disorders affecting the brain, spinal cord, peripheral nerves, neuromuscular junction, and muscles.
Interpret clinical findings alongside imaging, laboratory tests, electrophysiological studies, cerebrospinal fluid analysis, and other relevant diagnostic results.
Document clinical assessments, diagnoses, treatment plans, progress notes, referral recommendations, and follow-up instructions accurately and promptly.
2.
Patient Management and Continuity of Care
Manage patients with a broad range of neurological conditions.
Order and review appropriate investigations such as neuroimaging, laboratory tests, electrophysiological studies, and other specialized diagnostic evaluations to support timely clinical decision-making.
Initiate, adjust, and monitor treatment plans based on clinical response, disease progression, and current evidence-based guidance.
Coordinate admissions, referrals, rehabilitation plans, discharge arrangements, and follow-up care to ensure continuity across the patient journey.
Identify patients requiring escalation of care and liaise promptly with emergency, intensive care, neurosurgical, rehabilitation, and other specialist teams where appropriate.

Clinical Monitoring, Review and Medical Decision-Making
Review patient progress regularly and modify management plans according to symptom evolution, response to therapy, and diagnostic findings.
Monitor high-risk neurological patients for deterioration, complications, treatment side effects, and associated co-morbidities.
Provide timely escalation, referral, or transfer recommendations when higher levels of care or additional intervention are required.
Participate in case reviews, multidisciplinary discussions, clinical handovers, and care planning meetings to support optimal outcomes.
4.
Patient Safety, Quality of Care and Infection Prevention
Promote safe, evidence-based neurological practice in line with institutional policies, clinical protocols, and ethical standards.
Apply infection prevention and control measures consistently across all patient interactions and diagnostic or treatment procedures.
Identify clinical risks, adverse events, and near misses, and take prompt corrective and preventive action.
Support medication safety and the appropriate use of neurological investigations, therapies, and hospital resources.
5.
Communication, Documentation and Patient Education
Maintain accurate, complete, and timely clinical documentation, including consultation notes, progress updates, referral notes, discharge summaries, and management plans.
Communicate diagnoses, treatment options, risks, prognosis, and follow-up plans clearly to patients and their families.
Provide counselling on disease awareness, medication adherence, lifestyle modification, rehabilitation, and long-term condition management.
Ensure effective clinical handovers and timely communication with referring clinicians and multidisciplinary teams.
6.
Leadership, Teamwork and Professional Conduct
Work collaboratively with general practitioners, emergency physicians, nurses, radiologists, rehabilitation teams, laboratory professionals, pharmacists, neurosurgeons, and other specialists to deliver integrated patient care.
Demonstrate professionalism, accountability, sound ethical judgment, and respect for patient confidentiality at all times.
Contribute to mentorship, knowledge sharing, and clinical guidance for junior medical staff where appropriate.
Participate actively in multidisciplinary meetings, case conferences, morbidity and mortality reviews, and continuous professional development activities.
7.
Quality Improvement, Clinical Governance and Compliance
Participate in clinical audit, quality improvement initiatives, and patient safety reviews to strengthen neurological service performance.
Adhere to national medical regulations, licensing requirements, institutional protocols, and accepted standards of neurological practice.
Support the development and implementation of clinical pathways, guidelines, and standard operating procedures.
Contribute to data-driven improvement efforts through accurate reporting, review of outcomes, and documentation of incidents when required.
8.
Operational and Service Coordination Responsibilities
Coordinate effectively with diagnostic imaging, laboratory, pharmacy, rehabilitation, and allied services to ensure timely investigations and treatment decisions.
Support efficient patient flow by facilitating consultations, admissions, transfers, discharge, and follow-up scheduling.
Promote cost-conscious and clinically appropriate use of investigations, medications, and hospital resources.
Assist in service development by identifying opportunities to improve patient experience, workflow efficiency, and clinical outcomes.
N.B;
Duties may be updated based on service needs, organizational changes, or professional development.
Qualifications, Knowledge & Skills
Doctor of Medicine degree with subspecialty training in Neurology from a recognized institution.
Valid professional license and registration to practice as a Neurologist in Ethiopia.
Minimum of 3 years of relevant subspecialty experience in Neurology practice.
Proven experience in diagnosing and managing acute and chronic neurological conditions in hospitals, specialty clinics, or advanced outpatient settings.
Strong ability to interpret neurological examinations, imaging, electrophysiological investigations, laboratory findings, and other relevant diagnostic results accurately and integrate them into patient management.
Demonstrated commitment to evidence-based practice, quality improvement, and patient safety.
Excellent clinical judgment, analytical thinking, and problem-solving capability.
Strong interpersonal, communication, and documentation skills with a patient-centered approach.
Ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams and in a fast-paced, high-standard healthcare environment.
Experience in quality-accredited healthcare settings will be an added advantage.
