Kelem International School (KIS) is a Pre-KG to Grade 10 institution with a rich 80-year history as a Scandinavian school in Addis Ababa. For 73 years it operated under the Swedish Embassy as the Swedish Community School before transitioning in 2019 to an independent, not-for-profit international school. Working Hours
Hours: 7:30 am - 4:30 pm Monday-Thursday; 7:30 am - 3:30 pm Fridays
Reports to:
Team Leader
Key Responsibilities:
Maintain and continuously develop expertise in early childhood education.
Design and implement lesson plans that meet state learning standards and the school’s specific learning objectives.
Collaborate with fellow teachers to coordinate lessons, ensuring interdisciplinary reinforcement of concepts.
Provide both direct and indirect instruction to meet diverse learning needs.
Plan short- and long-term learning activities tailored to individual student needs.
Prepare students for all required assessments and evaluate their progress effectively.
Produce at least quarterly individual student achievement reports for parents.
Create an inviting, stimulating, and innovative classroom environment that fosters curiosity and creativity.
Practice effective and positive classroom management strategies.
Actively seek and incorporate feedback and coaching from the school’s leadership.
Perform other duties as assigned by the School Administration.
Essential Skills & Competencies:
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to build and maintain positive working relationships with colleagues, students, and parents.
Highly organized, autonomous, and able to meet tight deadlines.
Genuine passion for working with young children.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Education (Early Childhood Education preferred).
Proven expertise in early childhood education (through relevant degree, specialization, or work experience).
Demonstrated ability to engage and inspire school-age children.
Experience teaching diverse learners, including children with special needs.
Teaching experience in a public or private school setting (urban experience preferred).
Ability to work effectively as part of a collaborative team.
Competence in evaluating student achievement and learning progress.
Commitment to accountability for student outcomes.
Proficiency in written and spoken English.
Experience Requirements:
Minimum of 2 years classroom teaching experience.
Experience in community or international schools is highly desirable
