In Ethiopia, JTI is seeking an Agronomy Protection Technician to strengthen its agronomy operations and ensure crop protection standards are met.
Position: Agronomy Protection Technician
Objective
Under the supervision of the Agronomy Supervisor, the role is responsible for planning, organizing, and overseeing pest and disease control activities across crops while ensuring strict adherence to safety standards in handling and applying crop protection chemicals.
Key Responsibilities
Plan, coordinate, and supervise pest, insect, and disease control activities across nurseries, fields, and storage areas. Ensure availability and proper use of chemicals, spraying equipment, and PPE. Maintain accurate records of chemical usage, grower loans, and timely reporting. Track and reconcile crop protection agents (CPA), manage inventory, and maintain stock control systems. Follow spray schedules and implement pest control measures while observing pre‑harvest intervals. Conduct inspections of nurseries, fields, and warehouses to identify pest and disease threats. Promote preventive agronomic practices and adherence to standards. Ensure compliance with environmental, health, safety, and labor practices. Supervise field staff (pest assessors, sprayers) and oversee reporting accuracy. Carry out additional tasks and projects assigned by management.
Qualifications & Skills
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Crop Protection, Plant Science, or related field (no experience required). OR Diploma in Crop Protection, Plant Science, or related field with minimum 2 years relevant experience. Languages: Intermediate English (written and spoken). Skills: Basic proficiency in MS Office Knowledge of safety policies, labor regulations, and internal procedures Strong organizational and reporting skills
