The Gastroenterologist will diagnose, treat, and manage diseases affecting the digestive system, including the esophagus, stomach, intestines, liver, pancreas, gallbladder, and biliary tract. This role involves both outpatient and inpatient care, including diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic procedures.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Clinical Duties:
Conduct comprehensive evaluations of patients presenting with gastrointestinal and hepatobiliary disorders.
Diagnose and manage conditions such as gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), peptic ulcer disease, inflammatory bowel disease, irritable bowel syndrome, liver disease, pancreatitis, gastrointestinal bleeding, and gastrointestinal cancers.
Perform diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic procedures, including upper gastrointestinal endoscopy and colonoscopy.
Interpret laboratory investigations, imaging studies, and pathology reports related to gastrointestinal diseases.
Manage patients with acute and chronic liver diseases and coordinate care with other specialists when necessary.
Provide emergency care for gastrointestinal bleeding, foreign body ingestion, and other urgent gastrointestinal conditions.
Develop individualized treatment and follow-up plans for patients.
Administrative Duties:
Maintain accurate and detailed patient records, procedure reports, and follow-up documentation.
Ensure proper use, maintenance, and infection control practices related to endoscopic equipment.
Collaborate with surgeons, oncologists, radiologists, pathologists, dietitians, and other healthcare professionals.
Participate in quality assurance and clinical governance activities within the department.
Educational Duties:
Educate patients regarding digestive health, disease prevention, dietary modifications, and treatment options.
Provide guidance on screening and prevention strategies for gastrointestinal diseases and cancers.
Stay updated with advancements in gastroenterology through continuous professional development and research activities.
REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Medical Doctor (MD) degree from a recognized institution.
Specialization in Gastroenterology.
Valid professional license by the Ethiopian Food and Drug Authority (EFDA) or equivalent regulatory body in Ethiopia.
Minimum of 3 years of demonstrable post-specialization experience as a Gastroenterologist.

Knowledge of gastrointestinal and hepatobiliary diseases and treatment modalities.
