Position: Country Economist (Extended Term Consultant)
Job Summary
The Country Economist will provide economic analysis and advisory support for IFC operations in Ethiopia and two additional countries in Eastern Africa. The role involves monitoring macroeconomic conditions, supporting investment operations, contributing to country strategies, and engaging with governments, regulators, and development partners to unlock private sector investment opportunities.
Duties & Responsibilities
Monitor macroeconomic trends and advise on risks to IFC projects and strategies. Provide economic analysis for IFC investment operations, including due diligence and board papers. Contribute to Country Private Sector Diagnostics (CPSDs), analytical notes, and WBG joint initiatives. Support development of IFC country strategies to maximize impact. Liaise with World Bank teams, governments, and partners to align IFC engagements with national priorities. Support advisory reform projects to improve private sector ecosystems. Participate in senior‑level client meetings to provide technical advice and monitor reform progress.
Qualifications
Master’s degree or higher in Economics, Business, Finance, or related fields. 5–7 years of relevant professional experience. Strong knowledge of economic growth drivers in emerging markets. Ability to conduct analytical work with limited data and provide sound policy recommendations. Experience in African economic contexts and private sector development. Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English; other languages desirable. Strong collaboration skills across IFC/WBG teams and external stakeholders.
