The World Health Organization (WHO) offers one of the world’s most competitive and impactful internship programmes for students and recent graduates interested in public health, global health governance, administration, communications, and international development . Programme Objectives
Provide structured learning and capacity‑building opportunities for students Strengthen WHO programmes through specialized academic contributions Offer exposure to international health systems, global stakeholders, and UN operations Support WHO’s mission to advance health equity and strengthen health systems worldwide
Eligibility Requirements
Age
Minimum 20 years old at the time of application
Education
Enrolled in an undergraduate, graduate, or postgraduate programme in: Public health Medicine Social sciences Management Administration Communications External relations OR have completed a degree within the last 18 months Must have completed at least 3 years of full‑time university studies
Languages
Fluency in at least one working language of the WHO office of assignment
Nationality
Must hold a valid passport from a WHO Member State
Family Relation Restriction
Cannot be closely related to a WHO staff member (parent, sibling, child)
Other Requirements
Must not have previously participated in the WHO Internship Programme
Benefits
Medical and accident insurance during the internship Living allowance for eligible interns (based on financial need) Lunch vouchers at certain duty stations Exposure to global health systems, UN operations, and international public health networks
Candidate Obligations (Before Offer)
Commit to 6–24 weeks , full‑time Provide proof of enrolment or recent graduation Submit a Declaration of Interest (conflict‑of‑interest disclosure) Provide a medical certificate of fitness Submit documents only when requested
