Internship Overview
The internship is located in the Macroeconomics and Governance Division (MGD) of the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa in Addis Ababa.
The intern will work under the overall guidance of the Director of MGD and under the direct supervision of the Chief of the Macroeconomic Analysis, Institutions and Economic Governance Section (MIGS) and relevant responsible officers.
The internship provides an opportunity to contribute to the work of the Section through research, analysis, publications, stakeholder engagement, meetings, outreach, and operational activities.
Key Responsibilities
Depending on the intern's background, assigned office, and internship period, responsibilities may include:
Research and analyze topics related to sustainable economic development, governance, planning, and poverty reduction in Africa Provide inputs to and edit publications, papers, and other documents Liaise with stakeholders of the Macroeconomics and Governance Division Support the organization of meetings and events Assist with outreach activities Participate in day-to-day operational tasks of the Division Service requests for information Support the development of presentations Liaise with partner organizations Perform administrative tasks as assigned
Qualifications and Eligibility
Education
Applicants must meet at least one of the following conditions:
Be a student in the final year of a first university degree (Bachelor's degree or equivalent) Be enrolled in a Master's or PhD programme or equivalent Have completed a Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD programme
Applicants must provide proof of their educational status or completed degree as required during the application process.
Professional Experience
No professional work experience is required for applicants to the UN Internship Programme.
However, applicants must have a field of study closely related to the type of internship .
Technical Skills
Applicants should have good knowledge of standard software applications, particularly:

Language Requirements
English: Fluency in spoken and written English is required French: Working knowledge is an advantage

Internship Conditions
Duration: 3 months Possible Extension: Up to an additional 3 months, depending on the needs of the Section Schedule: Full-time Working Hours: 35 hours per week, five days per week Compensation: Unpaid
Interns are responsible for their own travel, visa, accommodation, and living expenses, as well as any related arrangements.
Interns who are not citizens or permanent residents of Ethiopia may be required to obtain the appropriate visa and work/employment authorization. Successful candidates should discuss their specific visa requirements before accepting an internship offer.
