About the Role
The U.S. Mission in Ethiopia is seeking qualified applicants for the position of IT Infrastructure Technician in the Diplomatic Technology Office. The role involves installing, maintaining, and supporting IT infrastructure and endpoints across U.S. Government facilities, vehicles, and official residences.
Key Responsibilities
Install, maintain, and decommission IT wiring and infrastructure (UTP, fiber, coaxial) Support communications requirements for VIP visits and events at off‑site locations Maintain inventory and records of IT infrastructure, tools, and endpoints Provide support for voice, data, audiovisual, radio, and satellite communication systems Perform troubleshooting, testing, and maintenance of IT infrastructure Ensure compliance with Department wiring standards
Qualifications
Education
At least two years of post‑secondary study at a vocational college or university in IT infrastructure, telecommunications, electronics maintenance, or network systems
Experience
Minimum of 2 years hands‑on experience in installation, repair, and maintenance of data, voice, radio, or video infrastructure systems
Language
Good working knowledge of English (Speaking/Reading/Writing) Fluent in Amharic (Speaking/Reading/Writing)
Job Knowledge
IT infrastructure theory and practices (installation, operation, maintenance, troubleshooting) Host country regulations and protocols on telecommunications and internet access Knowledge of cabling, radio, voice, or network infrastructure industry standards Ability to maintain inventory systems
Skills & Abilities
Strong administrative and record‑keeping skills Ability to read and interpret technical documents and schematics in English and Amharic Effective communication with technical and management personnel Ability to work independently with minimal supervision Experience using hand/power tools and electronic diagnostic equipment (drills, multimeters, tone generators, network testers) Proficiency in Microsoft Office and diagramming software for network topology Valid Grade 2/Auto driver’s license (minimum 5 years)
