Role description
The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) is inviting applications from eligible Ethiopian nationals for an Intern (Procurement) position based in Addis Ababa. The eight-month internship will provide practical experience in procurement operations, supplier and vendor management, procurement data analysis, reporting, digital procurement processes, and process improvement within WFP Ethiopia’s Supply Chain and Procurement Unit.
Job Summary
The WFP Intern (Procurement) will support procurement and vendor-management activities while gaining practical experience in a humanitarian organization. The intern will assist with vendor onboarding, procurement documentation, data management, reporting, dashboards, digital procurement workflows, stakeholder engagement, and process improvement under the supervision of the Head of Procurement.

WFP Ethiopia manages procurement activities involving goods and services, local and international sourcing, supplier engagement, market research, contracting, data analysis, and procurement planning.
The Procurement Unit is strengthening supplier relationship management, vendor onboarding, digital procurement workflows, data integrity, and management reporting. This internship is intended to provide structured practical experience while supporting procurement delivery and improvements in vendor management, tracking, and reporting.
Purpose of the Internship
The internship is designed to provide practical exposure to procurement operations in a humanitarian context while supporting the Procurement Unit in:
Vendor management and onboarding Procurement processing and documentation Procurement and supplier data management Data analysis and reporting Digital procurement systems and workflows Dashboards and tracking tools Process improvement Stakeholder engagement
The intern will help support accurate, timely, and compliant procurement and vendor-management processes.
Key Responsibilities
1. Vendor Onboarding and Supplier Data Management
Support internal stakeholders and suppliers during vendor onboarding and registration through applicable corporate platforms and workflows. Check vendor submissions for completeness and consistency, including legal and contact information, registration and tax details, supplier categories, qualification information, and supporting documents. Maintain accurate vendor-onboarding trackers covering request references, dates, stages, pending actions, responsible focal points, ageing, and final status. Follow up on incomplete, returned, or rejected cases and escalate unresolved matters to the appropriate procurement or supplier relationship management focal point. Support the orderly filing of vendor records and protect confidential or commercially sensitive information.
2. Procurement Operational Support
Gather and organize market, supplier, and procurement information for routine procurement activities, planning, and reporting. Assist with preparing and reviewing standard procurement documents, correspondence, evaluation support files, tracking sheets, and presentations under supervision. Monitor assigned procurement activities and update status trackers. Highlight overdue inputs, data gaps, and emerging delivery risks. Respond to routine queries within delegated authority and refer policy, contractual, or complex issues to responsible staff. Maintain accurate electronic records to ensure procurement files are complete, accessible, and audit ready.
3. Data Analysis, Reporting, and Dashboards
Extract, clean, reconcile, and organize procurement and vendor data from authorized sources. Prepare basic analyses relating to vendor onboarding, procurement pipelines, lead times, ageing, supplier performance, and other agreed indicators. Support monthly and quarterly procurement and supplier relationship management reports. Help identify bottlenecks and prepare practical follow-up actions. Assist in developing and maintaining Excel or SharePoint-based trackers and simple dashboards. Identify missing, inconsistent, or duplicate data and coordinate corrections with responsible staff.
4. Digital Procurement and Process Improvement
Support users and suppliers with routine navigation of authorized digital procurement processes using approved guidance. Collect and document user feedback concerning system usability, recurring process challenges, and capacity-building needs. Help map selected procurement and vendor-management workflows, including process stages, handovers, decision points, and typical delays. Contribute to guidance notes, checklists, standard templates, and other practical tools designed to improve consistency and service delivery. Participate in testing or enhancement activities for procurement tools when requested and appropriately authorized.
5. Stakeholder Engagement and Capacity Building
Support the preparation and delivery of orientation or training sessions for procurement colleagues, requesting units, and suppliers. Maintain professional and timely communication with internal stakeholders and suppliers. Prepare meeting notes, action trackers, and follow-up summaries for assigned procurement or supplier relationship management discussions. Work collaboratively with Procurement, Programme, Logistics, Finance, Legal, IT, and other relevant functions as required.
6. Compliance, Ethics, and Risk Awareness
Perform assigned duties in accordance with WFP rules, procurement principles, internal controls, and delegated authorities. Disclose and escalate any actual, potential, or perceived conflict of interest. Respect confidentiality, data-protection requirements, and appropriate access restrictions. Flag suspected irregularities, unsupported requests, control gaps, or supplier-related risks to the supervisor. Maintain impartiality, professionalism, and respectful conduct in all interactions.
Eligibility Requirements
Applicants must meet the applicable WFP internship eligibility requirements below:
Be currently enrolled in an undergraduate programme at a recognized university, such as a bachelor’s degree, and have completed at least two years of study. Candidates should have attended classes within the past 12 months. Relevant fields include: Procurement Supply Chain Management Business Administration Economics Finance Information Systems Computer Science Data Analytics Related fields
OR
Be currently enrolled in a graduate programme, such as a master’s degree, at a recognized university and have attended classes within the past 12 months. Relevant fields include Supply Chain, Logistics, Business Management, or a related field.
OR
Be a recent graduate from an undergraduate or graduate programme, having graduated within six months before applying for the internship, and have attended classes during the last 12 months of university enrolment.
Additional requirements include:
Must be an Ethiopian national . Fluency in English and Amharic , both oral and written. Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office , particularly Excel, Word, and PowerPoint. Familiarity with SharePoint or dashboards is an advantage. Must be fit to travel to and work at the internship duty station. Applicants must not be sons, daughters, brothers, or sisters of WFP employees. Educational credentials must be from recognized institutions certified by competent international or national authorities, such as UNESCO or Ministries of Education.
