Position 1: Intern, Climate Change, Food Security and Natural Resources

Qualifications/special skills:

Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent).

Purpose:

  • UNECA is seeking multiple interns with an educational background in climate change, policy, development, international relations, or related fields.
  • The interns will support the Climate Change, Food Security & Natural Resources Division in developing and promoting climate-response policies, plans, and programmes.
  • Additionally, the interns may assist with preparations for the upcoming COP32, which will take place in Addis Ababa.
  • The interns will also contribute to various cross-cutting themes within the division.
  • These positions are based at the main office of the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
  • Successful candidates are expected to be in Addis Ababa during the internship period.

Position 2: ACS intern on Data Analysis

Qualifications:

(a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher);

(b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent).

Completion of a master’s degree or enrollment in a Ph.D. program in a development-related field are strongly desirable. NA

Key Responsibilities
  • Profile use cases for emerging data sources and evaluate their suitability for addressing data gaps.
  • Assist in compiling metadata from national and international statistical websites.
  • Support the harmonization and comparability of African development indicators across multiple databases.
  • Contribute to the development of statistical tools that automate analytical processes.
  • Provide recommendations on modern tools for visualizing statistical results.
  • Prepare statistical summaries, methodologies, and key analytical findings.
  • Support statistical data compilation, analysis, and economic data management.
  • Assist with research activities for policy-oriented analytical work.
  • Contribute to dashboard development and data management tools.
  • Prepare documentation, reports, and background materials.
  • Support capacity-building initiatives and training activities.
  • Assist in organizing and maintaining standardized datasets and statistical records.
