The HALO Trust is the world’s oldest and largest humanitarian demining organization, employing over 10,000 staff across 30 countries. Registered in Ethiopia since 2021, HALO began mine action operations in Afar in 2025 to address contamination from explosive remnants of war following the Tigray conflict. HALO’s mission is to protect communities, restore land, and save lives by clearing landmines and explosive ordnance.
Position: Finance Assistant
Key Responsibilities
Accounting & Administration: Prepare payment vouchers, input transactions into NetSuite, maintain accurate finance records, support month‑end processes, and ensure compliance with procurement and financial policies. Cash & Bank Management: Assist with cash counts, reconciliations, cash forecasts, and banking activities. Payroll & Compliance: Support payroll preparation, process statutory payments (tax, pension), and maintain confidentiality of staff financial data. Internal Controls: Ensure adherence to HALO policies, support audits, and escalate irregularities or compliance concerns. Coordination: Work closely with programme and support teams to ensure finance procedures are understood and followed.
Qualifications & Requirements
Diploma or Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field 1–2 years’ experience in finance, accounting, or administration (NGO/donor‑funded experience preferred) Basic understanding of accounting principles and financial procedures Experience with accounting software or ERP systems (NetSuite preferred) Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Office applications Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and integrity Ethiopian National or Permanent Resident
