About The Job
The company is looking for a dynamic and experienced
Senior Accountant.
The ideal candidate will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, ensuring statutory compliance, and managing costs and inventory effectively, supporting the Finance Manager by delivering reliable financial reports, strengthening internal controls, and ensuring compliance with Ethiopian tax laws and IFRS across operations.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Accounting & Reporting
Monitor aging reports; ensure timely collections and accurate customer reconciliations.
Maintain complete and accurate books of accounts in line with IFRS and company accounting policies
Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements for management review.
Manufacturing and Cost Accounting
Maintain accounting records for raw materials, work in progress (WIP), and finished goods.
Support standard costing, BOM reviews, and production cost analysis.
Analyze material, labor, and overhead variances and report findings to the Finance Manager.
Merchandising & Service Accounting
Record and reconcile sales, purchases, and service revenues.
Ensure proper revenue recognition for goods sold and services rendered.
Monitor gross margins by product, customer, and business segment.
Budgeting, Forecasting and Management Support
Collaborate with department heads to prepare the annual budget.
Consolidate departmental budgets and forecasts into company-wide financial plans.
Perform monthly budget-to-actual comparisons and investigate material variances.
Taxation & Statutory Compliance
Prepare and review VAT, Turnover Tax, Withholding Tax and Corporate Income Tax computations.
Ensure timely filing and payment to the Ethiopian Revenue and Customs Authority (ERCA)
Maintain proper documentation for tax audits and assessments.
Advise the Finance manager on tax risks and compliance gaps.
Inventory Control, Reconciliation, and Systems
Monitor the perpetual inventory system to ensure accurate stock records.
Reconcile the inventory sub-ledger to the general ledger monthly.
Lead or support periodic physical inventory counts and cycle counts.
Investigate and resolve inventory discrepancies (e.g., shrinkage, obsolescence).
Maintain proper valuation of inventory under FIFO/LIFO/Weighted Average methods, as applicable.
Support ERP/accounting system implementation and upgrades.
Identify control weaknesses and recommend corrective actions.
Ensure proper segregation of duties within the finance function.
Team Leadership & Operational Supervision
Oversee the daily activities of Payable, Receivable, Stock Accountants, and cashiers to ensure timely processing and recording.
Set KPIs for direct reports, conduct performance reviews, and provide technical mentorship.
Ensure the team meets strict month-end and year-end deadlines.
Provide coaching and training on accounting standards, ERP use, and best practices.
Coordinate with procurement, production, and warehouse teams on costing and inventory issues.
Experience & Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Accounting and Finance with a minimum of 5 years of relevant accounting and finance experience, of which 2 years of experience at a Senior Accountant level, preferably in a manufacturing company.
What is needed from the ideal candidate:
Experience with accounting software such as Sage 50 Accounting (Peachtree ERP) and Microsoft Excel
Experience in inventory and cost accounting is advantageous
Strong Knowledge of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
