Role description
Position Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Accountant to join our finance team within a production and merchandise company. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in accounting, with a focus on production processes, inventory management, and merchandising. This role requires expertise in financial reporting, budget management, and cost analysis to ensure the company’s financial operations are efficient and accurate.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Reporting & Analysis
Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, ensuring compliance with accounting standards (GAAP/IFRS).
Provide detailed analysis of income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow, identifying variances and providing explanations for management.
Oversee the preparation of financial forecasts and budgets for production costs and merchandise operations.
Cost Accounting
Develop, implement, and maintain cost accounting systems to track production costs, including direct labor, materials, and overhead.
Analyze product cost trends and provide recommendations for cost-saving opportunities.
Work closely with the production and supply chain teams to monitor inventory costs and production efficiency.
Inventory Management
Oversee inventory valuation and ensure proper accounting of raw materials, work-in-progress, and finished goods.
Monitor and reconcile inventory transactions between systems, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
Assist in the planning and execution of annual inventory audits.
Merchandise Accounting
Track and reconcile the movement of merchandise from procurement to sales.
Ensure accurate accounting of merchandise purchases, sales, and returns.
Collaborate with the sales and operations teams to ensure proper reporting of product margins and sales profitability.
Internal Controls & Compliance
Ensure compliance with internal controls, accounting policies, and regulatory requirements.
Assist with the preparation for external audits and liaise with auditors to provide necessary documentation.
Identify areas of improvement in the financial control environment and implement corrective actions.
Team Leadership & Collaboration
Provide mentorship and guidance to junior accountants and finance staff.
Collaborate with other departments (production, sales, supply chain) to align financial goals with business objectives.
Support management in financial decision-making and strategic planning.
System & Process Improvement
Recommend and assist in the implementation of improvements to financial systems and processes.
Leverage technology to automate accounting functions and improve accuracy and efficiency.

Qualifications
Education
:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance.
Experience
:
Minimum of 5-7 years of accounting experience, with at least 3 years in a senior or supervisory role within a production or merchandise-based company.
Skills
:
Strong understanding of cost accounting, financial reporting, and budgeting.
Expertise in inventory management and accounting for production costs.
Proficiency in accounting software (ERP, Dynamics 365 Business Central) and Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel)
Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams.
Preferred
Familiarity with industry-specific financial practices, such as managing production schedules, supply chain costs, and merchandise inventory.
Experience with ERP systems (Dynamics 365 Business Central) and accounting software for production companies.
Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
