About the Project
The Ethiopian SRH Next Alliance, led by Plan Ethiopia and comprising five organizations, addresses urgent sexual and reproductive health (SRH) needs in Amhara, Tigray, and Afar .
The project focuses on equitable, gender-responsive, disability-inclusive, and youth-friendly services, local leadership, youth- and women-led civil society organizations, accountability, and coordinated action.
Its three core outcome areas are:
Increased availability, accessibility, acceptability, and quality of SRH services. Increased access to and use of comprehensive, age-appropriate, and disability-inclusive SRH information and education. A stronger enabling environment for the SRH of women, young people, and marginalized groups.
Project Assistant Job Summary
The Project Assistant will support the day-to-day implementation of the SRH Next Alliance Project at field level.
The position will work closely with local government structures, health facilities, schools, youth and women-led organizations, community actors, and project partners. Key areas of work include supporting access to quality youth-friendly and gender-responsive SRH services and information, strengthening community engagement and referral systems, supporting accountability mechanisms, and assisting with local coordination.
The Project Assistant will also contribute to routine monitoring, documentation, reporting, activity logistics, and follow-up of agreed actions across assigned woredas.
Frequent field travel is an essential part of the position.
Key Responsibilities
1. Project Implementation and Field Coordination
Support the planning, organization, and implementation of approved project activities in assigned duty stations and woredas. Implement activities in accordance with workplans, budgets, technical guidance, and Amref procedures. Maintain regular working relationships with woreda health offices, health facilities, schools, youth structures, women- and youth-led organizations, community leaders, and other relevant stakeholders. Assist with meetings, trainings, dialogues, community events, outreach activities, and review sessions. Support participant mobilization, venue and material preparation, attendance documentation, and action tracking. Conduct frequent field visits to assigned implementation sites. Follow up on agreed actions, implementation bottlenecks, and emerging needs. Support conflict-sensitive and context-adaptive implementation. Promptly communicate access, operational, or security concerns to the supervisor.
2. Youth-Friendly SRHR Services and Referral Pathways
Support health facilities and local stakeholders in establishing, strengthening, and following up youth-friendly, confidential, and integrated SRH service delivery arrangements. Support youth-friendly service corners where applicable. Assist with capacity-strengthening activities for SRH service providers. Support training and related activities focused on respectful, non-judgmental, adolescent- and gender-responsive, disability-inclusive, and survivor-centred care. Support mobile and community outreach activities targeting remote, marginalized, out-of-school, and conflict-affected adolescents and young people. Facilitate and follow up referral linkages among SRH, HIV/STI, SGBV response, psychosocial support, legal aid, and other relevant services in accordance with approved project approaches and safeguarding requirements. Support youth and community feedback mechanisms and service-monitoring activities. Assist in identifying and addressing service gaps.
3. SRH Information, Education, and Youth Engagement
Support peer education, structured youth dialogues, safe-space activities, and youth club activities. Support linkages between SRH education activities and youth-friendly services. Assist schools and community structures in implementing approved, age-appropriate SRH education activities. Support relevant life-skills and menstrual health components. Support dissemination and use of approved SRH information through digital and community-based approaches. Ensure information and activities are appropriate, inclusive, and consistent with project guidance. Promote meaningful participation of adolescents and young people, including girls, young women, persons with disabilities, and other marginalized groups. Support engagement with parents, caregivers, boys and men, religious leaders, elders, and community influencers. Participate in dialogue activities addressing harmful social and gender norms and strengthening acceptance of SRH.
4. Monitoring, Documentation, and Reporting
Collect, verify, and organize routine project monitoring information. Maintain attendance records, activity reports, referral follow-up information, and other required documentation using approved tools. Support timely data entry and submission to project information systems. Contribute to data-quality checks in coordination with project and MEAL teams. Prepare concise field updates and activity reports. Document case examples, lessons learned, and implementation challenges for review by the supervisor. Maintain organized electronic and hard-copy project files. Ensure supporting documents are complete and retrievable. Contribute to periodic review meetings by presenting field-level progress, gaps, and follow-up actions. Support documentation of good practices and learning.
5. Operational and Administrative Support
Support preparation of activity requests and participant lists. Assist with logistical arrangements, procurement follow-up, and settlement documentation in accordance with Amref procedures. Coordinate with finance, logistics, administration, and program colleagues to facilitate timely implementation of field activities. Use project resources responsibly. Support proper documentation, custody, and distribution of project materials and supplies. Perform other project-related duties reasonably assigned by the supervisor that are consistent with the purpose and level of the position.
Qualifications and Requirements
Educational Qualification
Applicants should have a Bachelor’s degree in one of the following fields or another relevant discipline:
Public Health Nursing Midwifery Health Promotion Sociology Social Work Development Studies
Professional Experience
At least 2 years of relevant experience supporting community-based health, SRH, adolescent/youth, gender, protection, or development projects. Experience in NGO-supported programming is an advantage. Practical experience working with local government structures, health facilities, schools, community organizations, and/or youth groups is highly desirable. Experience supporting field monitoring, documentation, basic data management, training or event organization, and report preparation.
Technical and Functional Skills
Good understanding of adolescent and youth SRH. Understanding of youth-friendly services, gender equality, inclusion, and community engagement principles. Ability to communicate respectfully and effectively with adolescents, young people, service providers, government counterparts, and community leaders. Basic competence in data collection, record keeping, report writing, and Microsoft Office applications. Strong organization, follow-up, problem-solving, and time-management skills. Ability to work independently in field settings while maintaining close communication with the project team. Commitment to confidentiality, safeguarding, prevention of sexual exploitation and abuse, and respectful conduct when working with young people and vulnerable groups.

Ability to work effectively in dynamic and potentially insecure operating environments. Ability to comply with Amref safety and security procedures and alerts.
