The Ethiopian Women Lawyers’ Association (EWLA) was established at the federal level in 1995 by female legal professionals and was registered as a civil society organization. For more than 30 years, it has been working to stand for justice and equality for Ethiopian women. It implements 5 major programs, including
Legal & Policy Advocacy, Right Education & Service Strengthening, Comprehensive Free Legal Aid & Holistic Support, Professional Empowerment & Legal Networking,
as well as
Professional Ethics & Service Quality
. The Association has its headquarter in Addis Ababa, and regional branch offices in Adama, Hawassa, Bahir Dar, Gambella, Asosa, Jigjiga, Semera, and Dire Dawa. Moreover, it has established

volunteer committees at zonal and district levels and launched a multiligual Toll free Hotline center
“7711”
which provides services in Amharic, Afaan Oromo, and Tigrigna.

Job Summary
Under the immediate supervision of the finance Manager, The Finance Officer is responsible for managing the day-to-day financial operations and ensuring the accurate and timely recording of all financial transactions at EWLA. They play a crucial role in maintaining the organization's financial records, preparing financial reports, and supporting the overall financial management and decision-making processes.
Duties and Responsibilities
Manage and process all financial transactions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll
Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records, including the general ledger, cash book, and other subsidiary books
Prepare and analyze financial statements, such as balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements, on a monthly and quarterly basis
Assist in the preparation of annual budgets and monitor budget variances, providing timely reports and recommendations to the Manager, Finance
Reconcile bank accounts, petty cash, and other financial accounts on a regular basis to ensure accuracy and integrity of financial data
Liaise with donors, vendors, and other stakeholders to ensure timely collection of payments and settlement of invoices
Support the preparation of financial reports and documents required for audits, donor reporting, and regulatory compliance
Contribute to the development and implementation of financial policies, procedures, and internal control mechanisms
Identify financial risks and opportunities, and recommend appropriate actions to the Manager, Finance
Provide training and support to other finance and non-finance staff on financial processes and systems
Contribute to the continuous improvement of EWLA's financial management practices and systems.
Perform other related duties as required by the Finance Manager.
Desirable Trainings:
Training in financial reporting, budgeting, internal controls, and financial management software, Excell, Peachtree accounting software’s.
Other Requirements:
Strong numerical and analytical skills, with the ability to interpret financial data and prepare accurate reports
Proficient in using IPSAS Based accounting software, financial management software, spreadsheets, and enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems
Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in financial record-keeping and reporting
Strong communication and interpersonal skills to interact with staff, donors, and other stakeholders
Ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines, and adapt to changing priorities
Commitment to financial transparency, accountability, and ethical practices
Alignment with EWLA's mission, values, and commitment to social and environmental impact.
Reporting Relationship:
The accountant is accountable to the finance manager and shall report to him/her.

Academic Qualification
Bachelor or Master's Degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, Business Administration or relevant field of studies
Required Skills and Experience
For BA degree 5 years’ experience and for MA/MSC Degree 4 years’ experience
NGO/CSO areas experience is Mandatory
Working experience in EU, UN Agencies, project is an added advantage
IPSAS (mandatory) and IFRS,
