Role description
The British Embassy in Ethiopia is responsible for the UK government’s efforts to promote international development in Ethiopia and deepen bilateral ties between the UK and Ethiopia. This is a really exciting time to join the British Embassy, 14 months out from COP32 in Ethiopia. This role will be central to supporting the UK’s partnership with Ethiopia on COP32, building on our global leadership on climate finance and experience hosting COP26. As Climate and Nature Programme and Policy Officer, you will play a central role in delivering the Embassy’s bilateral Climate and Nature Country Business Plan and supporting the UK’s objectives in the lead up to and delivery of COP32.
Position 1: Climate and Nature Programme and Policy Officer
Essential qualifications, skills and experience
- Experience of working on climate and nature policy issues, including climate finance.
- Excellent analytical and data analysis skills, and good experience presenting information in clear information products using relevant IT packages.
- A proven ability to communicate clearly and confidently, verbally and in writing.
- Strong understanding of Ethiopian climate and nature policies and architecture.
- Excellent inter-personal and team working skills, with an ability to multi-task, work flexibly and adapt to emerging issues.
- Strong experience in relationship-building, establishing robust networks and managing partners or stakeholders is desirable.
- Familiarity with programme delivery or project management is desirable.
Salary: 2,198. 28 (Base salary is subject to tax and other statutory deductions)

Position 2: Procurement and Estates Manager
Essential qualifications, skills and experience
- At least three years’ relevant experience in procurement, contract management, commercial management or supply chain management.
- Practical experience of planning and delivering competitive procurement exercises.
- Experience preparing or reviewing specifications, tender documents, evaluation criteria and procurement records.
- Experience evaluating bids and supporting fair, evidence-based contract award decisions.
- Experience managing contracts, suppliers or complex commercial relationships.
- Experience monitoring supplier performance against service levels, deliverables or performance indicators.
- Experience resolving supplier-performance problems and managing commercial risk.
- Experience managing budgets, expenditure and contractual commitments.
- Evidence of securing value for money while maintaining service quality and compliance.
- Experience working within clear governance, financial-control and policy frameworks.
- Ability to maintain complete, accurate and audit-ready procurement and contract records.
- Strong negotiation, influencing and stakeholder-management skills.
- Strong written and spoken English.
- Ability to explain procurement requirements clearly to staff who are not procurement specialists.
- Strong customer-service and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to manage competing priorities and deliver results under pressure.
- Strong organisational, analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Sound judgement and the confidence to challenge non-compliant or poor-value proposals.
- High standards of integrity, fairness and professional conduct.
- Good knowledge of Microsoft Office applications and the ability to use approved digital tools, including artificial intelligence tools, safely and effectively.
- Willingness to undertake FCDO-sponsored training and professional development in procurement, commercial management, contract management and estates assurance.
