About the Organization
The United Nations Office to the African Union (UNOAU) was established in 2010 to strengthen cooperation between the United Nations and the African Union. Its mandate includes supporting their partnership in peace and security, providing coordinated UN advice to the African Union, and improving the efficiency of UN assistance in Addis Ababa.
The Finance Assistant will work in UNOAU's Finance Unit in Addis Ababa and report to the Head of Unit.
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will support the Finance Unit with the following duties:
VAT Reconciliation and Recovery
Review outstanding value-added tax (VAT) items and follow up with the Ministry of Revenue on unresolved cases. Prioritize the reconciliation of outstanding VAT items associated with XB funds and other funds, including UNOAU, OSE-HOA, and PESG Sudan. Analyze related transactions, investigate discrepancies, and initiate write-off requests where appropriate. Review relevant UNOAU VAT documentation and identify inconsistencies. Review outstanding liabilities and receivables and prepare write-off requests when necessary. Collect the required information and supporting documents to facilitate the approval process.
Accounts Payable and Vendor Payments
Assist with the timely processing of vendor payments. Identify invoices involving VAT recoveries. Contact vendors promptly when invoices or supporting documents are incomplete. Upload salary-recovery payment documents and other invoices to the Regional Service Centre in Entebbe (RSCE) for processing. Coordinate with the Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) and the RSCE Treasury Unit regarding payment runs and processing updates.
Financial Administration
Assist with cash-related functions. File invoices and upload relevant documents to the Umoja workplace system. Perform other finance-related duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Requirements
Education
A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
Work Experience
At least 2 years of experience in finance and accounting functions is required. Experience in VAT claim processing and account reconciliation is required. Experience using the Umoja Finance Module is desirable.
Language Requirements
English is required. Applicants must demonstrate English proficiency at UN Level IV in reading, writing, listening, and speaking.
