Role description

United Nations Economic Commission for Africa Economic Commission for Africa Careers: The United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) is committed to advancing inclusion, gender parity, and diversity in its workforce. This internship will offer a unique opportunity to contribute to ECA’s diversity, equity, and inclusion agenda, particularly in relation to improving outreach strategies and supporting inclusive recruitment practices.

Position: Intern – Macroeconomic Analysis, Institutions and Economic Governance Section (MIGS) / MGD

Education Requirements

Applicants must meet at least one of the following criteria:

  • Be a student in the final year of their first university degree (Bachelor’s degree or equivalent).
  • Be enrolled in a Master’s degree programme.
  • Be enrolled in a Ph.D. programme or equivalent.
  • Have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Ph.D. programme.

Applicants who meet any of the above criteria must indicate which criterion they meet and attach proof to the application. An official certificate will be required at a later stage.

Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience. However, applicants must have a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship for which they are applying.

Technical Skills

Applicants should have good knowledge of standard software applications, especially:

  • MS Word
  • MS PowerPoint
  • MS Excel
  • MS Teams

The intern is expected to:

  • Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and a personal commitment to the ideals of the United Nations Charter.
  • Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals from different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, including a willingness to understand and tolerate differing opinions and views.
