Role description
The United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) is inviting applications for the position of Economic Affairs Intern in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia . This full-time internship offers recent graduates and students an opportunity to gain practical experience supporting economic research, policy analysis, and sustainable development initiatives within the United Nations. Internship Summary
The Economic Affairs Intern will support UNCTAD's Regional Office for Africa by contributing to research, stakeholder engagement, project development, data analysis, and knowledge management activities related to economic development and sustainable development across Africa.
Key Responsibilities
Support the dissemination of UNCTAD research and publications. Assist in organizing meetings, briefings, and stakeholder consultations. Contribute to concept notes and project proposal development. Conduct research and analysis on economic and development issues relevant to Africa. Identify and compile research materials and policy information. Prepare briefing notes, workshop reports, and statistical summaries. Attend meetings and prepare summaries and reports. Support database management and internet-based research. Assist with additional assignments as directed by the supervisor.
Required Qualifications
Applicants must meet one of the following criteria:
Be enrolled in or have completed a graduate degree (Master's or PhD or equivalent); or Be enrolled in or have completed the final academic year of a Bachelor's degree or equivalent.
The degree should be in:
Economics
Required Skills
Good knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, including Word, PowerPoint, and Teams. Strong research and analytical skills. Ability to prepare concept notes and research proposals. Interest in international development and the work of the United Nations. Ability to work effectively with people from diverse cultural backgrounds.
Language Requirements
Fluency in written and spoken English is required. Knowledge of French is desirable.
Internship Conditions
This internship is unpaid . Interns are responsible for travel, visa, accommodation, medical insurance, and living expenses. Applicants working remotely must have appropriate computer equipment and meet the required IT security standards.
