These positions are part of the USDA Food for Progress (FFPr) SunGold Project , a 5‑year program aimed at transforming Ethiopia’s sunflower sector by addressing productivity, market linkage, financing, and policy constraints.
Position 1: Agriculture Production Officer
Key Responsibilities
Manage implementation of SunGold project activities in Oromia, Central, Southern, and Southwest regions. Recruit commercial and cluster farmers into sunflower production. Facilitate supply of agricultural inputs and extension services. Train farmers on improved sunflower production practices. Promote improved seeds, agronomic practices, and crop management techniques. Build relationships with off‑takers, agro‑dealers, and agribusiness stakeholders. Coordinate with government institutions, research institutes, and cooperatives. Support monitoring & evaluation (M&E) through data collection, compliance, and reporting. Document success stories, lessons learned, and contribute to communication materials.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Agribusiness, Agricultural Economics, Rural Development, Agricultural Extension, Agronomy, or related fields with 3 years of experience. OR Master’s degree in the same fields with 1 year of experience. Experience in agricultural value chain development (soybean/sunflower preferred). Strong facilitation, communication, and interpersonal skills. Fluency in English and local languages. Willingness to travel across Ethiopia, including remote areas.
Position 2: Agribusiness/Market Officer
Key Responsibilities
Map, engage, and monitor commercial farmers, cooperatives, off‑takers, and processors. Develop agribusiness enterprises and promote entrepreneurship among farmers and youth. Conduct value chain analysis and gap assessments of agri‑SMEs and farmers. Facilitate contract farming arrangements and organize buyer–seller linkage events. Promote aggregation and collective marketing through cooperatives and cluster farmers. Support training in agribusiness management, marketing strategies, and financial literacy. Facilitate access to input financing by linking farmers and agribusinesses with financial institutions. Collaborate with government bureaus, private sector actors, and development partners. Support M&E efforts and contribute to communication materials and success stories.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Agribusiness, Agricultural Economics, Rural Development, or Business Administration with 3 years of experience. OR Master’s degree in the same fields with 1 year of experience. Experience in agribusiness and market systems development, contract farming, and market access. Strong business development, entrepreneurship, and facilitation skills. Fluency in English and local languages. Ability to travel frequently across Ethiopia.
Additional Information
