About the Assistant Controller Role
The Assistant Controller will support a portfolio of approximately 5–6 clients , generally working with businesses ranging from less than $1 million to $10 million in revenue.
The position involves hands-on full-cycle accounting, account reconciliations, month-end closing, financial reporting, and client relationship management. Depending on the client assignment, the Assistant Controller may directly manage accounting and client relationships, supervise a Staff Accountant, or work with the firm's CFO on higher-level financial matters.
The position is suitable for experienced accounting professionals from both outsourced accounting environments and corporate accounting backgrounds.
Key Responsibilities
Oversee a portfolio of clients and perform hands-on full-cycle accounting. Prepare financial statements and client reporting packages. Review account activity and investigate variances and discrepancies. Analyze financial results and identify trends and opportunities. Serve as the primary accounting contact for assigned clients. Present financial results and explain key findings to clients. Review Staff Accountant work and provide guidance when needed. Perform hands-on accounting activities according to client requirements. Prepare audit schedules and supporting documentation. Improve accounting processes, reporting procedures, and internal controls.
Qualifications and Requirements
Applicants should meet the following requirements:
Bachelor's degree required. At least 5 years of progressive accounting experience . Experience working in complex accounting environments, including multiple entities, locations, or business units. Experience leading month-end closing processes. Experience preparing financial statements. Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including PivotTables . Ability to work remotely within the required ET or CT time-zone eligibility. Ability to work the stated 8:30 AM–5:00 PM ET, Monday–Friday schedule.
Salary and Benefits
Base Salary: $85,000–$90,000 USD per year.
