Personal Special Needs Teacher Wanted
This is a private individual seeking a dedicated Personal Special Needs Teacher to provide one-on-one educational and developmental support. The role centres on supporting a learner with special needs in a combination of school and home or closely supervised setting. The environment is collaborative, respectful, and focused on the learner’s safety, well-being, and growth.
The position offers the opportunity to make a direct, meaningful impact on a learner’s daily life and long-term progress. Applicants will work closely with the family to create a stable, nurturing, and structured learning environment.
Role Description
This is a full-time, on-site role based in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, for a Personal Special Needs Teacher providing individualized instruction and support to a learner. The teacher will develop and implement daily lesson plans adapted to the learner’s abilities, focusing on academic, social, communication, and life skills. Responsibilities include observing and assessing progress, adjusting strategies as needed, and using structured routines and visual or tactile supports.
The teacher will assist with behavior management, encourage independence in daily activities, and maintain clear, respectful communication with the family or caregivers.
The role also involves documenting progress, coordinating with any external therapists or specialists when needed, and ensuring a safe, calm, and inclusive environment throughout each day.
Location:
Lebu area, Addis Ababa
Working Hours:
Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM
Salary:
Based on agreement and experience
Key Responsibilities:
Provide individualized learning and developmental support
Plan and implement educational and behavioural activities tailored to the child's needs
Monitor progress and provide regular feedback to parents/caregivers
Create a positive, engaging, and supportive learning environment
Qualifications
Special Education Experience working with individuals with special needs and knowledge of special education strategies and accommodations.
Teaching and Middle School: Proven teaching skills, ideally with middle school–age learners or similar developmental levels.
Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills to collaborate effectively with the learner, family, and any support professionals.
Educational Background: Degree or formal training in Special Education, Education, Psychology, Child Development, or a related field preferred.
Additional Skills: Patience, empathy, cultural sensitivity, and the ability to maintain structure and consistency; experience with individualized education plans (IEPs) or similar frameworks is an advantage.
Other Requirements: Ability to work on-site full time in Addis Ababa, reliable attendance, and a commitment to safeguarding and confidentiality. Resides in or near the Lebu area
Age: 30 years or younger
