PATH Ministries International – Ethiopia is a foreign charitable organization implementing vital programs focused on education, child protection, psychosocial wellbeing, gender and social inclusion, livelihoods, and community development. We work closely with children, families, schools, and government partners to improve the wellbeing and inclusion of vulnerable populations.

To strengthen the quality and effectiveness of our communication, training, and community education materials, PATH Ethiopia is seeking a qualified and experienced IEC/SBCC Graphic Designer and Illustrator. This three-month contract assignment will focus on translating technical program messages into culturally appropriate, child-friendly, and visually engaging materials to promote positive behavioral practices and raise awareness of critical support services.

1. Key Duties and Responsibilities

• IEC & SBCC Material Development: Design and illustrate Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) and Social and Behavior Change Communication (SBCC) materials. Translate technical messages into simple, visually engaging formats (posters, brochures, flipcharts, manuals) suitable for diverse literacy levels.
• Child Protection & Educational Materials: Develop child-friendly illustrations addressing sensitive protection concerns, safeguarding mechanisms, and referral pathways. Create scenario-based visual case studies and educational aids for training manuals and facilitator guides.
• Organizational Graphic Design: Design professional layouts for project reports, success stories, fact sheets, social media graphics, and event materials while standardizing PATH Ethiopia’s brand identity and visual guidelines.
• Cultural Adaptation & Localization: Ensure all visual assets respectfully and accurately represent local contexts, maintaining inclusive representations of gender and vulnerable groups. Design materials adaptable for English, Afan Oromo/Oromiffa, and Amharic languages.

2. Minimum Qualifications & Experience

• Educational Background: Degree, diploma, or equivalent professional qualification in Graphic Design, Illustration, Visual Communication, Fine Arts, Multimedia Design, or a closely related field. Exceptional portfolios may substitute for specific academic qualifications.
• Professional Experience: 3 to 5 years of relevant experience producing original illustrations (not just layout-based design) and developing IEC/SBCC materials. Previous experience with NGOs, development organizations, or child-focused programs is highly desirable.
• Technical Mastery: Strong proficiency in Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, CorelDRAW, Affinity Designer, Procreate, or Canva. Must demonstrate strong digital illustration, typography, vector graphics, and print preparation skills.
• Language Skills: Good working ability in English and Amharic. Strong communication skills and knowledge of Afan Oromo/Oromiffa are highly desirable and strongly preferred for field operations.

Because this assignment involves communication materials related to children and vulnerable populations, the selected consultant must strictly comply with PATH Ethiopia’s Child Protection and Safeguarding policies. All representations must uphold the dignity and safety of beneficiaries, strictly avoiding exploitative, discriminatory, or sensationalized imagery.

Though this role is remote, the consultant must be highly reliable, attend scheduled weekly/monthly virtual meetings, and be willing to travel to project implementation areas for field testing and community consultation when required.
