Role description

Danish Refugee Council, one of the world’s leading humanitarian NGOs, is currently looking for a qualified Field Medic for our operations in Sheraro & Adigrat, Ethiopia.

In July 2024 DRC launched a humanitarian mine action programme, initially composed of NTS and explosive ordnance risk education (EORE) in Northwest and Central Zone in Tigray, Ethiopia. DRC is therefore looking for a dedicated Field Medic to support the launch and implementation of a new project beginning in August 2026.

The overall role of the field medic is to provide medical support to DRC NTS/EPRE field teams and medical advisory to HDP humanitarian mine action operations.

Your main duties and responsibilities will be:

The DRC Humanitarian Disarmament and Peacebuilding (HDP) Field Medic shall:

  • Provide emergency medical aid to deployed teams in accordance with IMAS ICP level requirements.
  • Offer medical support and guidance to deployed teams on all health-related concerns.
  • Provide the Operations Manager with oversight and updates on all medical matters.
  • Ensure that NTS/EORE teams are fully equipped and trained in accordance with the in DRC HDP SOP on Medical Support in Mine Action.
  • Ensure the ability to perform all medical duties professionally and effectively in line with operational standards.
  • Verify that all staff are qualified and competent to carry out their assigned duties in support of clearance operations, in accordance with the definition of qualified personnel.
  • Maintain accurate reporting mechanisms and produce timely records and reports on all medical activities, in line with the DRC HDP SOP on Medical Support in Mine Action.
  • Conduct regular casualty evacuation (CASEVAC) drills in coordination with the Technical Field Manager (TFM) and Team leader (TL).
  • Provide direction, supervision, and advice to DRC HDP personnel regarding health and medical issues.
  • Support the Operations Manager in the investigation of accidents or incidents, ensuring all relevant medical reports are compiled accurately.
Experience and technical competencies:
  • Minimum  BA Degree in Nursing
  • At least 3 years of relevant work experience.
  • Previous experience in NTS/EORE or other mine action specialism is desirable
  • Experience working for non-governmental organizations is an asset
  • Experience and willingness to work in the field in remote and volatile areas
  • Knowledge of current health care legislation and regulations.
  • Fluent in Tigrigna, Intermediate level of English.
  • Confident user in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
