Role description

The Ethiopian Engineering Corporation is seeking recent graduates and qualified candidates for various job openings.

The key activities of the EEC-Construction business unit involve high-end, complex construction projects, primarily focusing on high-rise commercial and residential buildings, real estate, as well as infrastructure projects such as roads, railways, airports, and construction in the water and energy sectors.

EEC-Construction is poised to expand into a conglomerate comprising several business units, which will include Piling, underground and foundation works, Fit-Out, Energy (Solar Solutions), Electro-Mechanical Solutions, Facility Management, Landscaping, and the production of construction materials.

Position: Quantity Surveyor (Building Construction)

Qualification:

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, or related field.
  • 3–7 years of experience in construction projects
  • Strong knowledge of building construction methods, materials, and standards.
  • Familiarity building contract frameworks.

Quantity Surveyor (Building) is responsible for managing project costs, contracts, and financial documentation throughout the lifecycle of building construction projects. This role ensures accurate quantity take-offs, timely preparation of payment applications, effective handling of variations, and proper contract administration to support successful project delivery.

  • Prepare detailed quantity take-offs for building works (structural, architectural, finishes, MEP).
  • Verify subcontractor and supplier quantities against project drawings and specifications.
  • Maintain updated records of material usage and labor quantities.
  • Prepare interim payment applications and final accounts for clients.
  • Review and certify subcontractor payment requests based on actual progress.
  • Ensure compliance with contract terms and project milestones.
  • Identify, evaluate, and document variations in scope (design changes, additional works, site conditions).
  • Prepare variation orders and claims documentation for client approval.
  • Negotiate variation costs and timelines with clients and subcontractors.
  • Assist in drafting, reviewing, and managing contracts with clients and subcontractors.
  • Monitor compliance with FIDIC or local building contract standards.
  • Maintain records of correspondence, agreements, and contractual changes.
  • Support dispute resolution processes with proper documentation.
  • Provide cost reports, cash flow forecasts, and financial updates to project management.
  • Coordinate with site engineers, project managers, and procurement teams.
  • Ensure timely communication of financial and contractual issues to stakeholders.
