Role description
We’re building a platform that connects the Ethiopian diaspora abroad (US, Europe, Middle East) with local vendors here in Ethiopia. Diaspora buyers pay online, and vendors fulfill orders locally. We’re hiring our first team member on the ground to make this work. 📍 Location: Addis Ababa (some travel to vendors) 🕐 Type: Starting part time, growing into full time as we scale 👤 Reports to: __ What you’ll do: Vendor Onboarding • Find and recruit local vendors • Verify them, collect documents and photos, set up their listings • Walk them through how payouts and orders work • Train/help them on shipping, and communicating with buyers Vendor Management • Stay in regular contact with vendors and resolve issues as they arise • Track vendor performance and flag those falling behind • Help vendors improve their listings (photos, pricing, descriptions) Platform Monitoring • Flag delivery delays or vendor issues to the team promptly • Watch for local problems (customs, courier reliability) that could affect trust • Serve as the early warning system on the ground Customer Support • Answer buyer questions about orders, vendors, and delivery • Help resolve disputes (refunds, late delivery, wrong item) • Escalate technical issues (payment failures, bugs) to the team About You Who we’re looking for: • Based in Addis Ababa, fluent in Amharic and English • Strong with people, comfortable calling or visiting vendors in person • Organized, capable with spreadsheets, WhatsApp, and email • Self starter, comfortable building processes where none exist yet • Trustworthy, with access to vendor and order data Nice to have: • Experience in e-commerce, logistics, retail, or small business in Ethiopia • An existing network of vendors or small businesses
