- According to the work program, receives the vehicle from the outgoing driver at the beginning of the shift and hands it over to the incoming driver at the end of the shift, ensuring that an appropriate witness is present during the handover when necessary.
- During vehicle handover, inspects the vehicle’s safety, records the mileage, checks and confirms cleanliness, and reports any damage, dents, breakage, cracks, or other safety concerns to the department head before accepting the vehicle.
- Checks daily whether required items such as engine oil, radiator water, brake fluid, and similar essentials are sufficient, and ensures any shortages are replenished.
- Drives carefully in compliance with traffic rules and with due consideration for vehicle safety.
- While driving the organization’s ambulance, provides appropriate assistance to patients and physically weak individuals, and monitors and ensures their safety during transport.
- When leaving with a vehicle for a special assignment, takes the necessary precautions to protect the vehicle and, if alone and needing to leave the vehicle, parks it properly and ensures it is locked securely.
- Records vehicle mileage, monitors fuel consumption, and submits reports accordingly.
- When travelling with organizational staff for work purposes, provides the necessary cooperation while observing traffic rules and maintaining vehicle safety in a way that does not expose anyone to danger.
- Ensure timely reporting and escalation of critical patient conditions.
- Monitors the organization’s vehicles regularly and immediately reports any technical problems or other deficiencies to the supervisor and follows up to ensure the necessary repairs are made.
- Monitors the organization’s vehicles to ensure service schedules are observed and that appropriate maintenance and servicing are carried out and confirms that this is done properly.
- Daily check equipment listed on the inventory check list book
- Maintain a clean, safe and therapeutic environment.
- Consistently follow infection prevention and control protocols.
- Ensure safe handling of equipment and biohazard materials.
- Promote patient safety by identifying and minimizing risks.
- Maintain accurate, complete, and timely patient records.
- Provide clear handover reports during shift changes
- Communicate effectively with physicians and other healthcare professionals
- Demonstrate professionalism, punctuality, and accountability.
- Always wears the organization’s assigned uniform while on duty.
- Maintain respectful and compassionate relationships with patients and colleagues.
- Participate in multidisciplinary teamwork and decision-making.
- Attend meetings, training and continuous development (CPD) activities.
- Participating in clinical audits, quality improvement, and patient safety initiatives
- Adhere to hospital policies, procedures, and national health care regulations.
- Report errors, incidents, and near misses according to protocol.
- Support implementation of clinical of clinical standards and guidelines.
Qualifications, Knowledge & Skills
- Above grade 12
- Valid driving license.
- Ambulance Driving experience of 2 years and above.
- First Aid Training and certificates will be an added advantage.
- Compassionate and patient-centered approach.
- Ability to work under pressure and handle emergencies
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to develop alternative solutions.
- Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience with complex scheduling and coordination
